How the auction worked and what changed from the one before
The 2026 auction was a mini auction: the franchises kept most of their squads from the season before and bought to fill the gaps.
The franchises spent ₹215.45 crore, down 6.5% on the ₹230.45 crore spent at the last mini auction, in 2024.
At the 2026 auction an overseas player's fee was capped at ₹18 crore, the top retention price of the cycle. Kolkata Knight Riders bid ₹25.20 crore for Cameron Green, so Green is paid ₹18 crore and the other ₹7.20 crore goes to the BCCI.
1,355 players registered for the 2026 auction, 156 went under the hammer and 77 were sold. The other 79 went unsold.
