Premier League prize money

The Premier League paid its 20 clubs £2.83bn in 2024/25. Liverpool took £174,900,000 of it and Southampton £109,200,000, so the whole division sits within £65,700,000 of itself.

Every club collects £96,900,000 before a ball is kicked. Everything above that is either won, with merit payments running from £53,100,000 for first place down to £2,600,000 for 20th, or earned in front of a camera, which is what facility fees pay for and what stops the money table from matching the league table.

Where the money table and the league table disagree

Clubs paid out of order in 2024/25

Manchester United 15 → 11 4 places better off on money · 28 live matches
Fulham 11 → 13 2 places worse off on money · 14 live matches
Everton 13 → 14 1 place worse off on money · 16 live matches
West Ham United 14 → 15 1 place worse off on money · 18 live matches

Manchester United finished 15th and were paid like a club that finished 11th, on the back of 28 televised matches. Facility fees are the only part of the pot that has nothing to do with results, and for a club broadcasters keep picking they are worth more than several league places.

What the pot has done

The division paid out £2,833,600,000 in 2024/25, up 15.4% on the £2,456,008,346 of 2018/19. Every club in the division is paid out of that one pot, so the columns are the ceiling on every figure in the table above.

Manchester City have been paid more than any other club over the 6 seasons, £974,207,675. 12 of the 29 clubs here were in the division for all 6 of them; the rest went up or down and were paid for the seasons they were present.

Frequently asked questions

How much prize money does the Premier League pay?

£2,833,600,000 across the 20 clubs in 2024/25. Every club received £96,900,000 of that whatever it did: two equal shares of the broadcast money plus the central commercial payment. The rest is won: £53,100,000 in merit payments for finishing first, £2,600,000 for finishing 20th, and facility fees of between £8,900,000 and £24,900,000 depending on how often a club was on television.

Which Premier League club earned the most prize money?

Liverpool, on £174,900,000 in 2024/25. Southampton received the least, £109,200,000, so the whole division sits within £65,700,000 of itself. Across the 6 seasons on this page Manchester City have been paid the most, £974,207,675.

Why do clubs that finish lower get paid more?

Facility fees. A club is paid for each of its matches shown live in the UK, and the broadcasters pick the fixtures people want to watch rather than the ones the table says are important. Manchester United finished 15th in 2024/25 and were 11th on money, because 28 of their matches were televised, 18 more than Ipswich Town, which is worth £14,500,000. That is more than 5 places up the table.

What is a merit payment?

The part of the money paid for finishing position. In 2024/25 first place was worth £53,100,000 and 20th £2,600,000, falling by an even step at every place between. It is split across the domestic and overseas broadcast deals, which is why the published table lists it twice.

Does this include European prize money?

No. These are the central payments the league itself makes to its own clubs. Money from the Champions League, the Europa League and the Conference League is paid by UEFA and is separate from it, as is anything a club earns from the domestic cups.

Where do the figures come from?

The Premier League publishes the payment table for each club at the end of every season. 6 seasons are on this page: 2024/25, 2023/24, 2022/23, 2021/22, 2020/21 and 2018/19. We hold no payment table for 2019/20, so that season is not among them.

The other side of a Premier League club's books

This page is the money coming in. For the money going out, see what Premier League clubs pay their squads and the highest paid players in the division. Or look at how long each club's wage bill is tied down, this season's transfers, or every league we track. For what a club wins away from its own league, see Champions League prize money, Club World Cup prize money, Europa League prize money and Conference League prize money. For a league that publishes its formula rather than its payments, see Bundesliga prize money. For the knockout cups, see FA Cup prize money and Carabao Cup prize money. For what a relegated club is paid after it leaves, see Championship parachute payments. Where a league publishes the shares and not the payments, see Serie A prize money. Where a competition pays for where a team finished rather than for every round it won, see World Cup prize money.
