France Galop sets the shares and they add up to exactly 100% of the fund, so a purse is spoken for before the race is run.

Owner. The owner is the only party in racing who is paid the prize rather than a percentage of it, which is why their share is the one that moves when a country changes its rules.
Trainer. French trainers take almost twice the share their British counterparts do, which is the single biggest difference between the two systems.
Jockey. The riders, across the whole field. French racing pays its riders a larger share of the fund than British Flat racing does.
Social charges. France collects the sport’s social contributions inside the split rather than billing them afterwards, so the figure is visible in a way it is not elsewhere.
