The 2014 tennis prize money list
$140,401,258 won on court in 2014, split between 344 players. Novak Djokovic took $14,269,463 of it.
Every player the tour paid in 2014, ranked by what they won that season and nothing else. A career total rewards longevity; a season list rewards the year, which is why the two rankings almost never agree at the top. The season is up 11.4% on 2013, and is the 12th biggest of the 55 seasons we hold.
The twenty biggest earners of 2014
Prize money won in the 2014 season
Ten players out of 344 took 42.5% of the season. A prize-money sport concentrates that way by construction: there is no wage and no appearance money on this list, so everything follows the rounds, and a player who reaches the second week of four majors has out-earned a year of quarter-finals everywhere else.
What the top ten did the year before
2014 against 2013, for the ten biggest earners of 2014
| # | Player | 2013 | 2014 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | Novak Djokovic Serbia | $12,447,947 | $14,269,463 | +14.6% |
| 02 | Roger Federer Switzerland | $3,203,637 | $9,393,124 | +193.2% |
| 03 | Rafael Nadal Spain | $14,570,937 | $6,746,475 | -53.7% |
| 04 | Stan Wawrinka Switzerland | $2,880,924 | $5,636,679 | +95.7% |
| 05 | Marin Cilic Croatia | $680,053 | $4,957,289 | +629.0% |
| 06 | Kei Nishikori Japan | $1,180,924 | $4,439,221 | +275.9% |
| 07 | Tomas Berdych Czechia | $2,977,406 | $3,944,069 | +32.5% |
| 08 | Andy Murray Great Britain | $5,416,221 | $3,918,244 | -27.7% |
| 09 | Milos Raonic Canada | $1,807,799 | $3,514,745 | +94.4% |
| 10 | David Ferrer Spain | $4,868,952 | $2,815,067 | -42.2% |
A season list moves harder than a career list. Prize money is paid for results and nothing else, so a player who was hurt for half of 2013 can treble his money in a year without doing anything differently, and a player who slips two rounds at three majors loses a third of his.
